PROJECT 1 : PROPOSING PASSIVE BUILDING DESIGN STRATEGIES

IN A GROUP OF 6, WE WERE REQUIRED TO PICK A STRUCTURE THAT WOULD SHOWCASE THE BASIC BUILDING DESIGN FOR THERMAL COMFORT. WE HAD TO RECORD AND ANALYZE THE EXISTING CONDITION IN TEMRS OF THERMAL CONTROL OF THE INTERIOR AND PREPARE A THOROUGH RESEARCH ON THE BASIC DESIGN STRATEGIES, EXISTING THERMAL CONTROL LEVEL AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AFFECTING IT.

THEN, WE WERE TO PRODUCED 2 A3 BOARD WHICH INCLUDED ALL THE RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS IN TERMS OF DIAGRAMS, IMAGES, DRAWINGS AND CALCULATIONS. BESIDES, A PROPOSAL TO ACHIEVE THERMAL COMFORT IN THE CHOSEN STRUCTURE , ALABORATE DESIGN FEATURES WITH DETAILS, THE EFFECT ON THERMAL COMFORT AND IMPORTANCE OF IT.

THROUGH THIS PROJECT, I HAVE UNDERSTOOD MORE ABOUT THERMAL COMFORT AND THE IMPORTANCE OD THERMAL COMFORT LEVEL IN A BUILDING. I CAN NOW IDENTIFY AND DEFINE THE PRINCIPLES OF HEAT TRANSFER IN RELATION TO BUILDING AND PEOPLE. BESDIES THAT, I AM ABLE TO CRITICIZE DESIGN OF THE SPAE IN TERMS OF THERMAL COMFORT BY REFERRING UBBL AND GBI STANDARDS. THIS ASSIGNMENT HAVE ALSO TAUGHT ME THE EFFECTS OF THE SUN ON THE THERMAL PERFORMACE OF BUILDINGS AND THE EFFECT OF INSULATION, THERMAL MASS AND AIR MOVEMENT ON THERMAL PERFORMANCE OF BUILDINGS. I HAVE ALSO LEARNT TO IDENTIFY ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS RELATED TO SITE CONDITIONS, CLIMATE AND ALSO LEARNT TO CALCULATE THE THERMAL HEAT.
