PROJECT 1 REQUIRED US TO EXPLORE ISSUES OF SPATIAL TYPOLOGIES AND POETICS THROUGH SIMPLE DESIGN EXERCISES. IN A GROUP OD 5, WE WERE REQUIRED TO PROPOSE 2 SCHEMES FOR A WALKWAY SPACE THEMED 'JOURNEY FOR THE 5 SENSES'.
PROJECT 1A: PRECEDENT STUDIES
ANALYSING SPATIAL POETICS & SPATIAL TYPOLOGIES IN ARCHITECTURE
PROJECT 1A HELPED US TO IDENTIFY AND ANALYZE SPATIAL ORDER AND SPATIAL POETICS THROUGH PRECEDENT STUDIES. WE WERE ASKED TO CHOOSE 2 PRECEDETNS FOR ANALYSIS (ONE PRE-MODERN MOVEMENT & ONE CONTEMPORARY / ONE LINEAR & ONE CONCENTRIC). THE PRECEDENT STUDIES SHOULD BE INCLUDED SPATIAL TYPOLOGIES AND SPATIAL POETICS.
PROJECT 1B: 'JOURNEY OF THE 5 SENSES'
POETICS ARCHITECTURE
PROJECT 1B IS THE CONTINUE PART OF PROJECT 1A. WE WERE ASSIGNED TO DESIGN A POETIC SPACE THEMED 'JOURNEY FOR THE 5 SENSES' BY USING THE DESIGN STRATEGIES BASED ON THE PROJECT 1A. FOR THIS PROJECT, WE WERE GIVEN LITERATURE, POETRY AND LYRICS TO VISUALISE IT FROM AN ARCHITECTURE VIEWPOINT. NEXT, WE HAD TO TRANSLATE THE LITERATURE, POETRY OR LYRICS THAT WE HAVE CHOSEN INTO A JOURNEY BY USING 2 CONTRASTING SPATIAL TYPOLOGIES.

THROUGH THESE PROJECT, I HAVE LEARNT TO IDENTIFY AND EXPLAIN DIFFERENT SPATIAL TYPES IN ARCHITECTURE, ANDHOW THEY INFORM SPATIAL USE AND EXPERIENCE. BESIDES, I HAVE MANAGED TO CREATE TECTONIC EXPRESSIONS OF DIFFERENT SPATIAL TYPOLOGIES WHCH IMPACT ON THE USES AND EXPERIENTIAL CONDITIONS OF SPACE. THROUGH TRANSLATING LITERATURE, LYRICS AND POETICS INTO ARCHITECTURAL FORM, I AVE LEARNT TO PRODUCE DRAWINGS (2D AND 3D), MODELLING AND VERBAL PRESENTATION TO COMMUNICATE AND VISUALIZE ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN AND IDEAS. GENERATE DESIGN THROUGH CONSCIOUS CONSIDERATION OF SECTION-PLAN RELATIONSHIP WITH CONSIDERATIONS OF HUMAN SCALE, NATURAL LIGHT, MATERIALITY AND TEXTURES IS ALSO ONE OF THE LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THESE TWO PROJECTS.
PROJECT 2: GENIUS LOCI
GROUP : SITE ANALYSIS
THERE ARE TWO PARTS IN PROJECT 2, WHICH ARE GROUP WORK AND INDIVIDUAL WORK. PROJECT 2 REQUIRED AN ANALYSIS OF THE SITE CONTEXT, BECAUSE THE SITE NEEDS TO BE UNDERSTOOD AND ANALYSED. SOCIETY, CULTURE, HISTORY, MEMORY AND LANDSCAPE OF A PLACE ECHOES THE MEANING OF THE PLACE.

FOR THIS PROJECT, WE WENT TO BUKIT CINA, MALACCA TO CONDUCT SITE ANALYSIS OF THE PHYSICAL CONTEXT WITHIN THE IDENTIFIED MACRO AND MICRO SITES. WE WERE ASKED TO SUBMIT OUR ANALYSIS IN A 7-10 MINITUES OF VIDEO PRESENTATION. WE HAVE RECORDED AND ANALYSED OUR SITE BY USING THE FRAMEWORK AS BELOW:

INDIVIDUAL: CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
PERSONAL INTERPRETATION & CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT AS A RESPONSE
THIS IS AN INTERIM SUBMISSION, EACH OF US MUST SHOW OUR CONCEPTUAL IDEAS OR DESIGN STRATEGY AND ITS DEVELOPMENT INTO A DESIGN SCHEME WORKS AND HOW IT IS RESPONSIVE TO THE CONTEXT. BESIDES, HOW THE DESIGN HAS BEEN DEVELOPED INTO AN 'EXPERIENTIAL SPACE' TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE CONSIDERATIONS OF USERS, CONTEXT, FUNCTION AND EXPERIENCE SHOULD BE ALSO INCLUDED INTO OUR WORK. EACH OF THE STUDENTS MUST SUBMIT THEIR INDIVIDUAL MICRO SITE ANALYSIS ON A2 PANEL WHICH INCLUDED THE CONCLUSION BY IDENTIFYING THE KEY CHARACTER AND THE SWOT ANALYSIS OF THE PLACE THAT WOULD FORM INSPIRATION IN THE DESIGN, AND THEN PRESENT A DESIGN CONCEPT FOR A VISITOR'S INTERPRETIVE CENTRE DERIVED FROM THE ISSUES DISCOVERED.


AFTER THIS PROJECT, I'D MANAGED TO PRODUCE SITE ANALYSIS WHICH DOCUMENT, INTERPRET AND ANALYZE THE SITE CONTEXT AND THE 'GENIUS LOCI' OF A PLACE AND TO PRODUCE A CONCEPT DESIGN FOR A VISITOR INTERPRETIVE CENTRE BASED ON THE SITE ANALYSIS CONCLUSIONS.
VISITOR INTERPRETIVE CENTRE (VIC)
OUR TASK FOR PROJECT 3 IS TO DESIGN A VISITOR INTERPRETIVE CENTRE THAT EMPHASISING A STRONG ENGAGEMENT AND RELATIONSHIP TO THE SITE, SPATIAL EXPERIENCES AND PROGRAMMATIC REQUIREMENTS. THE VIC WILL SERVE AS TWO PURPOSES, WHICH ARE:

1.TO PROVIDE A PHYSICAL POINT OF REFERENCE WITH VISUAL SIGNIFICANCE THAT KEEPS ALIVE THE CLTURE, HISTORY, MEMORY AND ESSENCE OF THE SITE.
2. TO PROVIDE ACCOMMODATION TO HOUSE AND DISPLAY RELEVANT MATERIAL AND INTERPRETIVE MATERIAL FOR PUBLIC ACCESS AND INFORMATION.

STUDENT WAS REQUIRED TO SUBMIT 4 A1 SHEETS WHICH CONVEYING IDEAS UNDERLYING THE DESIGN, ITS OVERALL FORM & SPACE, AND ITS SPATIAL QUALITIES.

AFTER THIS PROJECT, I HAVE LEARNT TO GENERATE DESIGN BASED ON THE UNIQUE CHARACTER AND CONDITIONS OF THE SITE CONTEXT AND GENERATE DESIGN THROUGH CONSCIOUS CONSIDERATION OF SECTION-PLAN RELATIONSHIP WITH CONSIDERATIONS OF HUMAN SCALE, NATURAL LIGHT, MATERIALS AND TEXTURE. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME FOR ME TO DESIGN A SMALL SCALE COMMUNITY BUILDING WHICH RESPONSE TO THE SITE, FUNCTIONAL PROGRAM AND USERS' EXPERIENCES, IT WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE. IN ADDITION, I HAVE ALSO LEARNT THAT THERE ARE SO MANY CONSIDERATIONS TO DESIGN A COMMUNITY SPACE.
