PROJECT 1 : SKELETAL CONSTRUCTION
TEMPORARY BUS SHELTER
IN A GROUP OF 6, WE WERE ASSIGNED TO CONSTRUCT A TEMPORARY BUS SHELTER ACCORDING TO THE SPECIFICATIONS.

THE BUS SHELTER HAS TO BE CONSTRUCTED TO ACCOMMODATE 5 TO 6 PERSONS AND IT SHOULD BE ABLE TO DEMONSTRATE THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE SKELETAL FRAMES AND ITS JOINTS. THE JOINTS HAT WE CONSTRUCTED SHOULD CLEARLY REFLECT THE ACTUAL JOINTS. BESIDES, WE WERE ENCOURAGED TO USE ANNOTATED SKETCHES AND DIAGRAMS TO EXPLAIN THE CONSTRUCTION, JOINTS, FORCES, STRUCTURAL MOVEMENT EXPERIENCED DURING THE TEST.

OTHER THAN A 1:50 SCALE MODEL OF THE SHELTER, WE WERE ASKED TO PRODUCE A A3 BOUND REPORT COMPLETE WITH VISUALD, SKETCHES AND INCLUSIVE OF THE DETAILING AND PROGRESSIVE DOCUMENTATION OF YOUR PROJECT.

FROM THIS PROJECT, I HAVE LEARNT TO APPLY AND RECOGNIZE CONSTRUCTION SYSTEM IN DESIGN. THROUGH THIS PROJECT, I HAVE UNDERSTOOD SKELETAL STRUCTURE AND ITS RELEVANT STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS. IN ORDER TO PRODUCE THE REPORT, WE HAVE ANALYSED THE ISSUES OF STRENGTH, STIFFNESS AND STABILITY OF STRUCTURE INCLUDING MODES OD STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS, FORCES, STRESS, STRAIN AND LAWS OF STATIC. THIS ASSIGNMENT LET ME UNDERSTAND HOW A SKELETAL STRUCTURE REACTS UNDER LOADING.

PROJECT 2 : UNDERSTANDING FORCES IN BUILDING CONSTRUCTION
IN A GROUP OF 4, WE WERE TO PROPOSE A BUILDING AND IDENTIFY THE STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS USED IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE BUILDING THAT WE HAVE CHOSEN. AFTER IDENTIFIED EACH OF THE STRUCTURAL SYSTEM IN TERMS OF FUNCTION, MATERIAL AND LOAD DISTRIBUTION, WE HAD TO PRODUCE A MODEL SHOWING THE STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS USED IN THE BUILDING AND A DETAILED MODEL SHOWING APPROPRIATE CONSTRUCTIONAL JOINTS. BESIDES, WE WERE REQUIRED TO PREPARE 2 A2 PRESENTATION BOARD WHICH ARE INCLUDED ANALYZING THE SUCCESS OR FAILURE OF THE MODEL TOGETHER WITH THE MITIGATING MEASURE, BRIEF INTRODUCTION OF THE BUILDING, CONSTRUCTION METHOD FROM ITS SUB-STRUCTURE TO SUER STRUCTURE, MODELLING PROCESS AS WELL AS DETAILING OF DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE BUILDINGS TO SHOW HOW IT IS CONSTRUCTED.

THROUGH ANALYSING THE STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS OF THE BUILDING, I HAVE LEARNT TO IDENTIFY THE BASIC STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS IN CONSTRUCTION AND DIFFERENTIATE IN TERMS OF LOADS AND FORCES ACTING ON THE STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS. I AM ALSO ABLE TO RECOGNIZE AND APPLY THE IMPLICATIONS OF CONSTRUCTION SYSTEM IN DESIGN. THIS PROJECT HELPED ME TO UNDERSTAND BUILDING COMPONENTS USED AND ITS ASSEMBLY. BESIDES, I AM ABLE TO ANALYSE THE ISSUES OF STRENGTH, STIFFNESS AND STABILITY OF STRUCTURES INCLUDING MODES OF STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS, FORCES, STRESS AND STRAIN AND LAWS OF STATIC. THROUGH CHOOSING MATERIAL FOR MODEL, I HAVE LEARNT TO MANIPULATE THE SELECTION OF MATERIALS USED AND ENSURE ITS BUILDABILITY.
